Undertow is a private journal. What you write in it — dreams, reflections, coincidences, questions — is personal, and this section describes exactly what happens to it.
What we store. Your email address and password (handled by our authentication provider), the entries you write, the readings generated from them, your preferences (tone, life areas, timezone, display name), your Daily Oracle history, and a record of which subscription plan you are on. Entries and readings are stored in our database (Supabase) and are scoped to your account, so other users cannot read them.
AI processing. To generate a reading, the text of your entry is sent to our third-party AI provider (OpenAI) for processing, along with a safety check. Undertow also creates mathematical representations of your entries (embeddings) so that later readings can recognize recurring symbols and themes across your own entries. These are derived from your content and are stored alongside it.
Payments. Subscriptions are processed by RevenueCat and Stripe. Undertow never receives or stores your card number or payment credentials — those are handled entirely by the payment provider. We store only your subscription status (plan, whether it is active, and when the current period ends).
Email. Account emails — confirmation and password reset — are delivered through our email provider (Resend).
Analytics. We record a small set of product events (for example: an entry was submitted, a reading completed, the paywall was viewed) to understand how Undertow is used. These events deliberately never include your journal text or the content of your readings.
Children. Undertow is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. We do not verify age at signup. If you are a parent or guardian — or anyone else — who believes a child under 13 has submitted personal information to Undertow, email hello@undertowdreams.com so that it can be reviewed and, where appropriate, deleted.
Your data, exported or deleted. You can download a copy of your data from Settings at any time. You can also delete your account from Settings. When you delete your Undertow account, your journal content, readings, profile, preferences, and other account data are deleted. We may retain limited billing records, including a billing identifier, transaction or subscription event type, store, and timestamps, where needed for payment reconciliation, accounting, fraud prevention, or handling later billing events. These records are no longer connected to an active Undertow account, but the billing identifier itself may remain in our payment systems. They contain no journal content.
By creating an Undertow account you agree to use it for your own personal reflection. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. You are responsible for the account credentials you use and for the content you enter.
Undertow is provided as-is. We aim to keep it available and working, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service — the AI provider can be unavailable, and when that happens Undertow will tell you it could not complete a reading rather than showing you something it did not really generate.
You may stop using Undertow at any time and delete your account from Settings. We may suspend or remove accounts that are being used to abuse the service or other people.
What Plus includes. Free accounts include one reading per day. Undertow Plus removes that daily limit, so you can create as many readings as you like. Everything else in Undertow — the Daily Oracle, your timeline, symbol and theme tracking, memory across your entries, and data export — is available on the free plan too.
Billing. Plus is a recurring subscription, offered monthly or annually. It renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. Prices are shown on the subscribe screen before you purchase, and any applicable tax is calculated at checkout.
Cancelling. You can cancel at any time from Settings, using the Manage button. When you cancel, your subscription stops renewing — you keep Plus access for the remainder of the period you have already paid for, and then your account returns to the free plan. Cancelling does not delete your account or your entries.
Refunds. Cancelling stops future charges but is not automatically a refund. If you believe you were charged in error or something went wrong, email hello@undertowdreams.com and we will look at it. Refunds are handled case by case through our payment provider.
Undertow generates readings using AI. A reading is an interpretive, symbolic reflection produced by a language model — it is not fact, not diagnosis, and not a statement about what is true of your life.
Undertow is for personal reflection and insight. It is not medical, psychological, legal, or other professional advice, and it is not a substitute for a qualified professional. Please do not use it to make decisions that need real expertise.
AI output can be wrong, inconsistent, or simply unhelpful. Treat a reading as a prompt for your own thinking, not as an answer.
